Hi Liam, I enjoy your articles, you make a complicated subject easy to understand. I started an allocated pension in 2017 when the transfer balance cap was $1.6m and I contributed $1.6m. I am now 73 and the current “myGov” website says I have available cap space of $0, so I assume I cannot contribute any more dollars. I would like to start a “recontribution strategy” to reduce my “taxable component”. Am I able to undertake this strategy as I would need to recontribute money back into the super/pension system and do I have 2 more years (to age 75) to complete this strategy? Thanks and regards, Bruce. bhawk@bigpond.net.au bhawk@bigpond.net.au

Hi Bruce, you would need to find out your Total Super Balance to understand your ability to use a Recontribution Strategy. If you take out $360k from your Pension account before 30th June then you get a debit on your Transfer Balance Cap which then becomes $1,240,000. But to be able to recontribute the $360k funds on 1 July 2025 your Total Super Balance on 1 July would need to be less than $1,760,000. You should set up a planing meeting and gather all the information you require to understand your personal circumstances. Hope this helps. Liam

        hi

i didn’t think the tbc was reduced by pension payments?

otherwise we could top up pension each year after minimum payments?

Hi Paul you are correct that Pension Payments do not reduce TBC, only lump sum commutations. The strategy mentioned in this query would require a lump sum commutation of the $360K. Liam
